In today’s digital world, screens often take center stage in our children’s lives—phones, tablets, TVs. As mothers ourselves, we’ve seen firsthand how this can affect everything from attention spans to physical activity. Like most parents, we wanted something more for our own kids—something real, hands-on, and meaningful. That’s where Toy Trunk began.

We’re Priyanka and Minu, architects by training, researchers by passion, and mothers who believe in the power of play.

With advanced degrees—Minu in Sustainability and Priyanka in Craft Technology—we’ve always shared a deep commitment to creating with purpose. Our architectural training gave us a strong grounding in ergonomics, materials, and thoughtful design. But it was our shared research into India’s dying craft forms, presented at the IIT Mumbai ICORD Conference, that sparked a deeper idea.

Through this research, we explored the fragile but rich ecosystem of Indian artisanal traditions—centuries-old techniques, stories, and skills passed from generation to generation. We were struck not only by their beauty, but by their potential to serve a much greater purpose.

That insight led to Toy Trunk—a place where the world of childhood development and the wellbeing of artisan communities come together.
